The Lancashire Association of Trade Union Councils (LATUC) is part of the national TUC (Trades Union Congress) and brings together over 30,000 trade union members across the county.
We campaign on a wide range of issues which affect working people and their families, including jobs, low pay, employment rights, civil liberties, opposition to racism, healthcare, social services, and peace.

Lost: Youth unemployment and the youth labour market' - The experience of unemployment can be
particularly damaging for young people, as evidence shows that those
who experience prolonged worklessness when they are young are likely to
suffer lifelong effects on both earnings and employment prospects. This
pamphlet proposes both short and long-term measures the government can
intr
oduce
to
reduce youth unemployment.Of those young people who are not in
education, 17 per cent are unemployed. And when young
people who are economically inactive and not in
education are added to this total it emerges that a staggering 19.7 per
cent of the entire youth population – a different and arguably even
more concerning one in five – is
